Our Method
The Active Rehabilitation (AR) method emerged during the early years of our organization in the late 1970s. It is unique and distinguishes us from both healthcare institutions and other organizations. AR is the foundation of all activities at RG Aktiv Rehabilitering and is based on five simple cornerstones.
Peer mentors
A peer mentor is a person with several years of experience living with a spinal cord injury or similar diagnosis. They have come to terms with their condition and serve as a positive example through how they live their life. A peer mentor is credible and relatable. Through a pedagogical approach, they share their knowledge and experiences with others.
Focus on Possibilities
We focus on all the possibilities that exist. Perceived limitations can be transformed into new opportunities. You have unique potential, and it’s up to you to decide how you want to use it.
Everyday Environments
Most of us don’t spend our lives in hospitals or settings specifically tailored to our needs. Everyday life, within a social and active context, cannot be fully controlled. There are physical and practical obstacles to consider, and social and emotional aspects often play a significant role. That’s why all RG activities happen in real-life settings.
Physical Activity
Physical activity is central to RG’s approach. It is essential for seizing new opportunities and developing independence in everyday life. Beyond improving your physical condition, it also enhances quality of life, for example by improving your mental well-being and facilitating your participation in a social and active life.
Psychological Process
Any serious injury will also pose psychological challenges. At RG, you will meet peer mentors and others facing similar challenges. These meetings provide a safe environment where you can find the tools and motivation to grow your independence. Meeting others in similar situations makes it clear just how important your mindset is – you choose how you want to live your life.
